About Us
Doug Markewich, CLU, CH.F.C., TEP
Doug Markewich was born and raised in Southern
Saskatchewan, where he attended the University of Regina.
He began his lifelong insurance career in Regina at age 23
and almost immediately specialized in interesting and complicated
farm estate planning cases throughout Saskatchewan.
Less than a decade later, Doug changed his
focus to corporate estate and tax planning and joined the
highly respected Saskatoon-based firm, Sam Jackson & Associates.
At age 33, Doug became a tax partner and moved his family
to Saskatoon. The firm promoted corporate life insurance concepts
for tax and estate planning clients from Calgary to Winnipeg.
In 2002, Doug left the Jackson partnership
to broaden his market. He now shares his time between his
own estate planning practice and Daystar Financial Group,
where he acts as a consultant. He provides advanced tax and
estate planning expertise for select advisors and their high
net worth clients.
Doug received his Chartered Life Underwriter
designation in 1992 and his Chartered Financial Consultant
designation in 1993. He has been an active member of the Canadian
Tax Foundation for the last 13 years and also joined the Society
of Trust and Estate Practitioners in 2000.
In his 22-year career, Doug has held several
positions – both as an instructor and committee member – at
industry and charitable organizations. He currently sits on
the local STEP board in Winnipeg and on their national education
committee. He speaks regularly to groups of insurance and
tax professionals and has published several papers and industry
articles.
Doug lives in Winnipeg with his wife Carol
and their four children.
Marlene Oige, Operations Manager
Marlene Oige brings a wealth of industry
knowledge to her role at Markewich Financial.
She began her career with MetLife and –
in over 20 years there – held the positions of Regional Office
Coordinator (Vancouver) and Branch Administrator (Winnipeg).
From MetLife, Marlene spent 9 years with
Rice Financial Group in Winnipeg, where she worked as Marketing
Coordinator and Manager of Life Administration. Marlene joined
Markewich Financial and Daystar Financial in 2005 as Operations
Manager specializing in Tax and Estate Planning.
Marlene works closely with Doug Markewich
and is responsible for all aspects of Doug's meeting schedule
travel arrangements and other administrative duties. Marlene
oversees all casework, making sure all aspects of process
and communication flow smoothly.
Marlene is married with two grown children
and resides in Winnipeg.
